About This Experience

The Grand is the same operator's one-hour Knik landing tour extended into a two-hour flight with three separate touchdowns. That structure is the point: instead of one glacier surface, you see the ice from three different vantages, including a remote peak that looks down the length of Knik Glacier.

One landing puts you on the glacier proper, among the azure melt pools that open across the surface through summer as the ice drains. Another puts you somewhere you could not otherwise reach on foot — a ridge or a high shoulder — with a guided walk rather than a stand-and-photograph stop.

Because it is helicopter-access throughout, you get the terrain without the approach: no eight-hour hike in, no river crossing, no scramble. It is the tour to pick if the reason you want a glacier is the view of it rather than the walk on it.

Check in at Alaska Glacier Lodge on East Knik River Road thirty minutes before your scheduled departure. As with every flight from this base, the drive out from Anchorage is about an hour and is not included.
