A helicopter is a good way to see a glacier and a very good way to reach a hike you could not otherwise get to. This four-hour tour uses it for the second: you fly out from Knik River Lodge, pick a landing spot with your guide based on what you want to see, and then walk.

The terrain is above the timberline — open country with long sightlines over the Chugach Range and Knik Glacier, the kind of place that takes a full day's approach on foot if it is reachable at all. Because the landing site is chosen rather than fixed, the hike can be pitched at your group: a gentle ridge walk or something with more in it.

Snacks and water are included, along with the guide and the flight. The walk is the substance of the tour rather than a stop between flights, so expect to be out in the weather for a good part of the four hours.
